80 ft to the ground

Tree Removal

Hazardous trees that threaten the house, storm damage on the fence or the drive, and big East Texas pines, taken down in sections, chipped and hauled.

Chapter 01

An 80 ft pine does not come down in one piece

Most removals start the same way. A pine has outgrown its spot, an oak leans toward the roofline, a top has died back, or roots are lifting the walk. Taylor Heaton had three very large pines in the front yard and one of them stood 80 feet tall. You can't lay that down whole in a yard with a house in it, so it has to come down in sections, top first.

Storm damage is the other half of the work. A trunk split down the middle, a limb hung up in the crown, a tree pushed over against the fence: those are the dangerous ones, and they don't wait for office hours. The phone here is answered 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and the crew comes with the saws and the loader.

Jesus walks the tree with you before anything is priced. Jill Wolverton said he showed up on time for the estimate and for the job, and that the crew could “work safely to take down a tree next to power and cable lines”. Every cut gets planned around what sits under the tree: the roof, the fence, the fire pit, the lines, the shrubs you want to keep.

A climber goes up roped in with the saw and the tree comes down from the top, piece by piece. On the ground, the mini track loader with the grapple picks up each round and carries it out, so nothing gets dragged across the lawn or dropped on a fence. Limbs go through the Woodsman chipper right there on the job.

Chapter 03

After the tree: the stump, the grass, new trees

Taylor Heaton's three pines left with their stumps, and the yard got two new trees and a bed prepped for grass.

That job took the crew four days, and Taylor called it the second time they had hired JR. Big removals are not an afternoon of work, and the clean-up is part of the job. Dan Herrin had old trees about 50 feet tall removed and wrote that the clean-up went “to the point where you could not easily tell the work had taken place”.

Stumps are ground below the grass line, and a commercial leaf blower takes the chips, leaves and sticks off the lawn before the crew leaves.

Taken down in pieces.

Cut rounds stack up in front of a brick house. A root ball lies where it was pulled, the loader parked beside it. That is what a removal looks like halfway through, and it is the part nobody sees from the street once the crew has left.

Once the tree is down, the stump is next. Read how we handle stump grinding below the grass, and what goes in afterward on the tree planting page.

A tree that worries you is worth a phone call.

Tell us where it stands and what it's leaning on. Jesus comes out, looks at it with you and gives you a free estimate, and the insurance is in writing if you ask. If it's already down, call any hour.
